Daguerreotypist Augustus Washington and John Brown’s body

I found an extremely interesting article
today about Augustus Washington, his photography shop in Connecticut and the infamous daguerreotype of John Brown.

The article appeared in the San Francisco Bay View National Black Newspaper and can be read in its entirety here.

Please join me in supporting a truly incredible project that my dear friend, Jean Libby, is working on updating.

Her "John Brown Photo Chronology" is the first collection of its kind pulling together all known daguerreotypes of the great man. Last published in 2009, Libby is working on updating the chronology and creating new panels for the exhibition. Your donation would go a long way to assist with this project that Libby has been working on for over 50 years!  Please go here to donate to her project.

Thank you, Alice, for your support and especially your friendship since 1976. That is when I first met your grandmother Beatrice Keesey and realized that I had connected with someone whose own grandmother was John Brown's daughter Annie.
