Was this a "special occasion"? Certainly not that many people visit the grave site everyday?

Actually until the 40s or 50s there were always large groups of people trekked to the farm to celebrate both John Brown's birthdate (May 9)and the anniversary of his death(Dec 2). While the Brown's still lived in the house (until 1863) they were often visited by these large groups.
